5 things you can do to get election-ready (plus upcoming workshops!)

Hi friends,

If there’s one good thing we can say about a heated election season rounding out an already tumultuous year, it’s this: at least we know that winter election day is coming. And, given that we’ve already weathered multiple storms in the last seven months, we can draw from lessons learned to prepare ourselves to face the unknowns. As leaders, we (hopefully) now have a better sense of what our staff need emotionally and materially to cope in crisis, what policies, systems, and expectations need to be adjusted, and how to communicate during a time of intense transition.

With that in mind, we’ve compiled some tips for managers and leaders to get their teams through this election season (even if your work isn’t directly related to electoral work, politics, or organizing).

Managing Through Election Season:
Community Conversation & Workshop

This moment is replete with leadership and management challenges (and opportunities!). Not only are you leading to carry out your mission and build your team in the time of COVID-19, you’re doing it less than a month out from a high-stakes national election.

Over the next two weeks, we’ll be hosting community conversations for leaders and managers looking for support on how to lead their teams through this election season. Led by Bex Ahuja, a Managing Partner at TMC, these sessions will be a conversation about how best to prepare for managing and leading your organization through the various scenarios that await us following the national election.

We’ll explore some of the annoyingly practical, but very real, questions you may be holding and share useful frameworks developed by TMC that can support your managers during this time.

Thursday, October 22
4–5:15pm ET / 3–4:15pm CT / 2–3:15pm MT / 1–2:15pm PT

Tuesday, October 27

Managing Through Election Season:
TMC Community Slack Channel

We’ve created an #election-season channel in our TMC Community Slack to share questions, tools, ideas, and innovations on how to effectively manage through this election season.

To join the TMC Community Slack, please review our community norms and fill out this form to receive an invitation.

Once you accept our invite, you will automatically be added to the #election-season channel. If you are already a member of the TMC Community Slack, follow these instructions and join the new channel.

If you have questions or trouble getting set up, email knowledge@managementcenter.org.

People of Color & Indigenous Cohorts

Managers and staff who are people of color and/or indigenous often face unique issues within their organizations while navigating the intersections of race, class, gender, and other identities. These cohorts create space to discuss and offer support around the challenges of being folks of color in progressive and social justice organizations, and to share practices that can help folks of color thrive. We still have space in one more cohort this year:

Managing to Change the World, 201 Edition: People of Color & Indigenous Cohort (3-Part Series)

  • Monday, December 9th (11:00-5:00 PM ET)
  • Tuesday, December 10th (11:00-5:00 PM ET)
  • Tuesday, December 17th (4:00-5:00 PM ET)

We also have TMC scholarships for our POCI Cohorts available upon request that can partially or fully cover the cost of the training if needed. You can request a scholarship by emailing our POCI Cohort Coordinator, Ebony, at ebony@managementcenter.org.

We’ve switched to credit card-only training registrations!

As of September 30, TMC has switched over to credit card-only registrations. Credit cards allow for one-step registration, faster refunds, and fewer emails so that you can focus on changing the world. To learn more about this change, including what to do if your school or organization cannot pay by credit card, check out our FAQ.
